Yes, it’s that important for local SEO. Simply put- if you did not create a Google+ page and carefully optimize (i.e. Shema Tags, site integration, post & review follow up ) it for your business, you are missing out on a huge opportunity to boost your local SEO efforts.
If you want to be found on Google, the world’s largest search engine, you can’t ignore their social platform, Google+. It is so much more than social media! It is a major ranking signal for search, a customer service portal for local reviews, a tool for publicizing your content and ideas on Google, a great way to interact with potential and current customers and an important SEO pass through signal to your entire website. Done right, your online presence will thrive!
How Does Google+ Affect Local Search Results?
When consumers take to Google to find a local business, Google will determine which businesses should be presented to the user by its local presence ( hopefully an optimized relationship between your plus account and website ), including:
- Which businesses are closest in proximity to the user’s requested destination (ex: a user searches for a service) AND your Google+ page verifies your address, city and state for Google who is trying to help that person with the best locally relevant results possible.
- Which businesses are the best? Google doesn’t want to suggest that a user go, for instance, to an Italian restaurant in Monmouth County NJ that no one likes. It wants to show the user his or her best options. To do that, Google will rely on customer reviews from your Google+ page. The pages with the most and best ratings show up higher in local search results.
- This is why we consult and assist our clients in setting up a review strategy that openly targets satisfied customers, asking them to leave a review on the Google+ page.
An active website with a proper Google Local listing affiliation proves that your site is trustworthy. These are the websites, content, reviews and addresses Google will want to list at the top of its search results!
How do you keep your web presence active?
Publish a weekly blog, and add the posts to your Google Plus wall with links back to the post in its’ entirety. If you are a Kinetic Knowledge client, your website is created in WordPress which has blogging capabilities built into the site. If you’re too busy to blog, our professional content writers can write and publish blogs to your site for you.
How Can You Create A Google+ Listing?
All you need is a Gmail address (you can create one if you don’t have one) to get started. Visit plus.google.com and it will take you through the steps of setting up a Google+ Page. If you don’t have a personal account, it will ask you to create one. This account will be the owner of the page. If you already have a Gmail address with a personal account, you can use this to create your business page.
As you register- you will need to choose what type of Google+ Page is best for your business. The choices are; Storefront (brick and mortar, customer come to you), Service (you serve customers at their location within a specific service area) or Brand (Brand, organization, or artist pages don’t include address or other physical location information that appears on Google Maps. Use this page to reach out to followers, fans, and customers on Google, but still be sure and set up one of the 1st 2!).
Once you answer a series of questions, select your category, add the most optimized description possible and create your page, Google will take you through a carefully laid out verification process. Once verification of you, your business and your page is complete, your listing will be live on Google!
